Naftogaz says to make Russia pay $5 bln for assets in Crimea
MOSCOW, Jun 23 (PRIME) -- Energy holding company Naftogaz of Ukraine is working together with the U.S. on making Russia pay U.S. $5 billion for the assets the company lost in Crimea, the company said in a statement on Friday in its Telegram channel.
CEO Oleksiy Chernyshov said in April that the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague had ordered Russia to pay $5 billion to the company to compensate for its losses in Crimea. President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said then that Russia would analyze the ruling.
“Naftogaz of Urkaine and five more companies of the Naftogaz group have filed a motion with the U.S. District of Columbia Court to confirm the decision of the arbiter panel with the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague that obliged Russia to pay a compensation of $5 billion for the losses and lost assets of Naftogaz in Crimea,” the company said.
The company thinks that it has the right to enforce the decision on the territories of the countries where Russian assets are located, and is working on that together with the U.S. and other target jurisdictions, Naftogaz said.
